General information

The breast is a modified apocrine sweat gland. Its main function is to feed the newborn during lactation (breastfeeding). It changes under the influence of hormones during pregnancy and then gains resistance against carcinogens during lactation. The breast consists of milk glands, ducts carrying the milk produced here to the nipple, and fat and connective tissue filling between them.
