Relationship between COVID-19 and Obesity

The new coronavirus pandemic, which has affected the whole world, emerged with respiratory tract infection in the city of Wuhan in China in the last months of 2019. It is a new strain of coronavirus that entered the literature in January 2020. This pandemic causes severe acute respiratory failure syndrome in humans. On the other hand, obesity is one of the most common diseases and one of the most common causes of death in the world today. Obesity can cause many diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and various cardiovascular diseases. Obesity occurs when the amount of energy intake from food exceeds the amount of energy consumed by metabolism and physical activity. In this article, we will talk about the relationship between Covid-19 and obesity.

Research on the relationship between Covid-19 and obesity and its long-term effects is still ongoing. Respiratory infections caused by coronavirus increase vascular permeability and reduce the activity of respiratory cells in obese patients. Patients with a high body mass index should be more careful in public, wear masks, and observe social distancing and personal hygiene rules. They should follow a diet that will improve their quality of life and emphasise daily physical activities. In overweight and obese individuals, the priority should be to treat obesity and obesity-related diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Do not neglect to consult your doctor for the treatment of obesity and obesity-related diseases.
