Non-Surgical Ingrown Hair Treatment

Popularly known as pilon, also known as ingrown hairidal sinus The treatment of the disease can now be performed without surgery. Surgical treatments have been used in the treatment of this disease for a long time.

However, due to frequent wound infection and recurrence of the disease, the tendency towards non-surgical ingrown hair treatment has increased. Nowadays, when treatment is planned, treatments that are simple, easy to apply, do not cause pain after the procedure, have a low recurrence rate, and have a short time to return to daily activities are preferred.

Phenol Therapy:

Due to its advantages, it is the most common application in our clinic. The method used is phenol treatment. In this method, which we call non-surgical ingrown hair treatment; With local anaesthesia, the area with ingrown hair is opened with a 3 mm incision and the hair and tissue residues in the area are cleaned. Phenol is administered into the cavity inside to both close the cavity chemically and dissolve the tissue residues inside. The procedure takes between 5-10 minutes. After the procedure, the patient can continue his/her daily life. He can return to school, work. Can drive a vehicle. No movement restriction is required. The need for additional sessions is evaluated with intermittent controls. To increase the success of long-term non-surgical ingrown hair treatment It should be ensured that there is no hair in the disease area. For this purpose, depilatory cream or epilation should be applied at the end of the procedure.

Laser Treatment:

Another non-surgical ingrown hair treatment method is laser treatment. After the hair and tissue residues in the ingrown hair area are cleaned through a small incision, all the gaps under the skin are burned by entering each sinus mouth with a laser tip and the gap in the tissue is closed. It is a costly procedure due to the laser used compared to phenol treatment. However, like phenol treatment, it can be repeated if necessary and does not cause any restriction in daily life and is applied under local anaesthesia in our clinic as another treatment method.

Hello hodja, I had ingrown hair surgery 25 years ago. There was a slight discharge and abscess in the last week. Is laser surgery suitable for recurrent ingrown hair or is there a non-surgical method? Thanks in advance,

Hello. First of all, get well soon. Sometimes there may be wound closure defects after ingrown hair surgeries. Of course, it is necessary to first examine and determine a treatment scheme accordingly. Although it is a bit tricky, treatment is possible. I wish you a healthy day.

Hello Mrs Elif, first of all get well soon. In ingrown hair disease, such situations can sometimes be encountered. The wound may not close due to the presence of infection in the surgical field. This situation can be evaluated and treatment can be continued by intensive wound dressing with antibiotic treatment. If you are in Izmir, we can help you with treatment by evaluating the current situation in our clinic. Get well again.

Hello there. I don't know exactly when it happened, but there is a feeling of pressure in my coccyx. There are no other symptoms. There are two small small holes. At first I thought it was a black spot due to my ignorance, but when I realised that there were holes, I thought of the possibility of ingrown hair. There is no abscess, there are only two holes. The doctor told me not to go to the laser because I had used acnetrend medication before. How is this procedure done, is it laser style? Can I stand up the same day? I will have to make a long journey, will there be any problems?
